Water Ripple Effect

Your First Session...

You don’t need to prepare anything special, but the following may help you feel more settled:

Before the Session

  •  Choose a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed

  •  Allow yourself a few minutes beforehand to arrive emotionally

  •  Remind yourself there is no “right” or “wrong” way to do therapy

In the Session

  •  We will talk about what has brought you to counselling

  •  You can share as much or as little as feels safe

  •  We will look at practical details such as confidentiality and boundaries

  •  You can ask any questions you may have

Helpful Things to Reflect On (Optional)

  •  What feels most difficult right now?

  •  What made you seek therapy at this point in your life?

  •  What would you hope might be different if therapy was helpful?

After the Session

  •  You may feel lighter, emotional, thoughtful, or tired — all are normal

  •  Give yourself time and kindness after your session

  •  We can review how the session felt next time

First Sessions

Our initial sessions are a chance for us to get to know each other. You can share what has brought you to therapy, at a pace that feels right for you. There is no pressure to talk about anything before you are ready. We will also look at what you hope to gain from therapy and how we can work together in a way that feels helpful and collaborative.

The Relationship

At the heart of therapy is the relationship we build. I offer empathy, warmth, honesty, and non-judgement, creating a space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences openly. Therapy is not about being “fixed” or told what to do - it’s about being heard, understood, and supported in discovering your own answers.

How We Work

As an integrative counsellor, I adapt my approach to suit you as an individual. While my core is Person-Centred, I may gently draw on other therapeutic approaches where helpful, always with your consent and understanding. Sessions are led by you, and we regularly reflect on how the work is feeling and whether it continues to
meet your needs.

Your Journey

Therapy can bring insight, relief, challenge, and growth. Some sessions may feel lighter, others more emotional. All of it is part of the process. Together, we will work towards greater self-awareness, resilience, and the changes you want to make in your life.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, especially if you’ve never spoken to a counsellor before. It’s natural to feel unsure, nervous, or even hopeful. My aim is to make therapy a space where you feel safe, respected, and supported from the very first session.
